SCO Acts to Deepen Contribution to Development and Governance

Tianjin USANEWS360 — The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) wrapped up its Tianjin Summit on Monday, adopting the Tianjin Declaration and a 2026–2035 development strategy to boost regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

Key outcomes included 24 cooperation documents covering security, economy, and cultural exchanges, as well as statements supporting multilateral trade and marking the UN’s 80th anniversary.

Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), emphasizing equality, rule of law, multilateralism, people-centered development, and practical action. Leaders welcomed the proposal, calling it vital for global governance reform.

The summit also expanded SCO membership, admitting Laos as a dialogue partner, while signaling further growth.

With new consensus and initiatives, the SCO set course for deeper cooperation and a stronger role in global governance.
